Biography

Argentinean composer Claudia Montero emerges as one of the most outstanding and acclaimed composers in Latin America nowadays. With an indisputable style that sounds like “Buenos Aires”, her works have been premiered and performed all around the world

Claudia Montero was awarded 4 Grammy Awards. In 2018 she won 2 Grammys, one for “Best Contemporary Composition” for her concerto for guitar and orchestra “Lights and Shadows” (Luces y Sombras), and one for “Best Contemporary Music Album” for her CD “Magic and Mysterious”. In 2017 she received a Grammy in the category “Best Contemporary Composition” for her string quartet “Quartet to Buenos Aires”, and in 2014 she received her first Grammy for “Best Contemporary Composition for her “Concerto for Violin and Orchestra”.

In 2018 the Liverpool Philharmonic commissioned the work “Aires del Sur” for accordion and orchestra, which received its premiere in March 2019 in Liverpool and was conducted by Vasily Petrenko and performed by  Ksenija Sidorova. The work will be premiered in with the Munich Philharmonic directed by Gustavo Gimeno.

The season 2016-2017 included the World Premiere of her Piano Concerto “Blanco y Negro” performed by the RTÉ Orchestra led by conductor David Brophy within the frame of the Galway International Arts Festival, and was subsequently performed at the Dublin National Hall in Ireland. Her "Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra" was premiered with the Valencia Orchestra at the Palau de la Música and her Concerto for Violin and Chamber Orchestra was performed by violinist Emanuel Salvador and the Baltic Neopolis Orchestra in May 2017.

Her works have been premiered by oster Kusel, the Baltic Neopolis Orchestra, the Orquesta Nacional de Tango de Buenos Aires, and the symphony orchestras of Salta, Tucumán, Rosario and the Neuquen University in Argentina. Her works were also performed at international festivals such as the Festival de Ronda, the Festival Fortea, the Festival de Música de Cámara de Langernagen, the Donau Festival, the Gitaristra Festival, the Festival de Música de Cámara de Montserrat, the Festival de Guitarra de Gandia and the Festival “Desde los confines del mundo” in Bahía Blanca, Argentina.

She has collaborated with chamber music groups and instrumentalists like the Maganos Quintet, the Cuarteto Latinoamericano, the American String Quartet, the Almus Quartet, the Kamer Quartet, the Barrenechea Dúo, the Billroth String Quartet, Il Concerto Accademico, Quatre U, Trío Luminar, Trío Brouwer, harpist Floraleda Sacci and guitarrist José Luis Ruíz del Puerto among many others.

Claudia Montero has released 5 CD recordings: her first recording “Evocaciones” features compositions for harp played by Floraleda Sacchi; “Sonidos de mujer” features works for guitar performed by José Luis Ruiz, her Grammy award winning CD “Ausencias”, and Grammy award winning CD “Irremediablemente Buenos Aires”. Her last work “Blanco y Negro” for piano and orchestra, was recorded by pianist Allison Brewster Franzetti with the Praque Philharmonic Orchestra and released in 2017.

Ms. Montero is frequently invited as a composer and lecturer to festivals such as the Cagliari International Music Festival in Italy, A Orillas del Guadalquivir Festival and the Festival de Música de Ayamonte in Spain, Gitarreland Festival in Germany and France, Encuentro Latinoamericano en las Artes in Alcalá and the Festival Internacional de la Habana in Cuba.

She began her musical studies at the Conservatorio Alberto Ginastera where she obtained a Bachelor´s Degree in Pedagogy and Composition. She obtained a Master Degree in Aesthetic and Musical Creativity at the Conservatory in Valencia, Spain, where she resides since 2002, and is currently working on her Doctoral Thesis at the Valencia University.
