Francisco Valero-Terribas

With an ever-growing reputation and endorsed by some of the most distinguished conductors, such as Lorin Maazel, David Zinman and Bernard Haitink, Spanish conductor Francisco Valero-Terribas, he has been described as “one of the most valuable, unquestionable and effective Spanish conductors of his generation” by Scherzo Magazine.

He held the position Assistant Conductor with maestros Yoel Levy, Isaac Karabtchevsky, John Nelson and Jesús López Cobos and was invited by the late Lorin Maazel to be Resident Conductor at the Castleton Festival in Virginia. He also held the position of Assistant Conductor at the Palau de les Arts "Reina Sofia" in Valencia and Musical Director of the Academy of Contemporary Music of the National Youth Orchestra of Spain.

Francisco Valero-Terribas has led main orchestras in Spain and around the world, including the RTVE orchestra, the Galicia Symphony Orchestra, the Valencia Orchestra, the Extremadura Orchestra, Oviedo Philharmonic and the Baleares Symphony Orchestra, the North Czech Philharmonic, the South Denmark Philharmonic, the Lucerne Festival Strings, the Shanghai Opera, the Haifa Symphony Orchestra, the KBS Orchestra in South Korea, the Transylvania State Philharmonic and the Petrobras Symphony and Heliopolis Symphony Orchestra in Brazil.

Upcoming engagements include invitations to lead the Granada City Orchestra, the Málaga Philharmonic, the Haifa Symphony Orchestra and the Cancún Symphony Orchestra in Mexico.

His work with soloists has been widely praised by colleagues and critics, including highly respected singers and performers such as Erin Morley, Elena De la Merced, Ivan Magri, Miquel Ramón, Gun-Brit Barkmin, Thomas Moser, Josu De Solaun, Anna Petrova, Anna Nilsen, Sofia Melikyan, Juan Jesús Rodríguez and Paata Burchulazde. A champion of contemporary music he has premiered works by composers Joâo Guilherme Ripper, José Ramón Encinar, Alicia Díaz, José Antonio Rezende, Mercedes Zabala, Emily Cooley and Oliver Knussen.

Francisco Valero-Terribas worked closely with mentors John Nelson, Bernard Haitink, Isaac Karabtchevsky, Yoel Levy and Jesús López Cobos.

He trained as a clarinetist at the Superior Conservatory of Music in Valencia and specialized in Orchestra Conducting. After winning various contests for young performers, he played as instrumentalist with principal Spanish orchestras such as the RTVE, National Orchestra of Spain and the Symphony Orchestra of Madrid while furthering his conducting studies at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana, the Järvi Academy, the Manhattan School of Music, the Lucerne Festival Academy and the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music in the US where he was mentored by Lorin Maazel, David Zinman, Marin Alsop, Jorma Panula, Paavo Järvi and Neeme Järvi. He worked with Horacio Gutierrez and Joaquín Achúcarro on the piano repertoire.
