Founded in 2003, Harmonia del Parnàs performs repertoire prior to 1800 with historically informed criteria, respecting the aesthetical and theoretical particularities that match each period and location. This repertoire is carefully selected through musicological research conducted with musical sources and documents from archives and libraries worldwide, and it gathers pieces from different genres by Hispanic authors from the 15th to the 17th centuries to create performances that result in a delicate balance between historical musicology and musical creativity.
Harmonia del Parnàs has been a founding member of the GEMA Association for Early Music Spanish Ensembles, and they have been invited by important festivals, institutions, and international concert halls such as Festival Internacional de Música Sacra de Tortosa, Festival Internacional de Música Antigua y Barroca de Peñíscola, Festival de Música Antigua de Aranjuez, Clásicos en Verano de la Comunidad de Madrid, Museo de Arte Hispanoamericano “Isaac Fernández Blanco” de Buenos Aires, Festival de Música Renacentista y Barroca de Vélez Blanco, Auditorio y Palacio de Congresos de Castellón, Institución “Milà i Fontanals” del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, Ayuntamiento de Barcelona, Centro Nacional de Difusión Musical (INAEM), Museo de Historia de Barcelona, Festival Medieval de Elche, Teatro Miejski de Gdynia de Polonia, Auditorio Nacional de Madrid, Palau de la Música de Valencia, Auditorio de León, and many more. TVE has recorded concerts by Harmonia del Parnàs for the tv program Los Conciertos de La2. Harmonia has toured Europe and America, and they have performed in prestigious festivals and auditoriums in New York, Chicago, Miami, Buenos Aires, Havana, Montevideo, France, Poland, among others.
Harmonia del Parnàs has recorded several albums, among which it is of special importance to highlight their work related to the preservation of Valencian music, such as Arda el Ayre (La mà de Guido, 2005), Requiem (La mà de Guido, 2006), José Pradas Gallén’s monography La tierra llora afligida, which was edited by the Valencian Regional Government as part of the collection “Valencian Musical Heritage” and nominated them for the Music Prize 2008 as “Best Classical Music Performance”, Salve Regina (Tempus, 2010), Bárbaro (Tempus, 2012), La Dorinda (Tempus, 2016), and Harmonia 15 (Tempus, 2019). In summer 2020, they have collaborated with Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana to premiere the interdisciplinary project “Quien amores tiene”, a celebration of the 5th Centenary of the first voyage around the world by Magellan and Elcano, at the Almagro International Festival of Classical Theatre.
Marian Rosa Montagut (Benifaió, Valencia) started musical studies at her hometown, and graduated with a Bachelor in Piano Performance from the Conservatory Joaquín Rodrigo in Valencia as well as a Bachelor in Philosophy from the University of Valencia. She then specialized in early and baroque music, studying with J. L. González Uriol at the Conservatory in Zaragoza. Marian has studied harpsichord with Albert Romaní and Eduard Martínez, and she has attended masterclasses by J. Ogg, R. Alesandrini, W. Jansen, E. López Banzo, and more. Founder of Harmonia del Parnàs, Marian conducts and plays harpsichord in this ensemble that has released eight albums and toured Europe and America, in addition to being a frequent collaborator with other groups as organist, harpsichordist, and conductor. She earned the Advanced Studies Diploma from the Doctoral Program in Musicology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain), and has been awarded several scholarships because of her research and preservation of Spanish music. The subject of women in music, and in art in general, is another of her fields of study. She has published articles in numerous scientific magazines, dictionaries and books such as the CSIC or the Anuario Musical. Likewise, she has participated as a speaker and giving training courses at the University of Valencia, the University of León, the University of Almería, as well as in Poland, France, Havana, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Chicago or New York. She recently was part of the committee of the International Congress of Musicology organized by the TEMPUS Music Research and Diffusion Center, of which she is currently in charge, an activity that she combines with the direction of Harmonia del Parnàs.
