Biography


Acclaimed conductor Conrad van Alphen enjoys an international career leading main orchestras worldwide.  

At the turn of the new millennium, Maestro van Alphen founded the Sinfonia Rotterdam, of which he remains Chief Conductor and Artistic Director. The orchestra presents a concert series at De Doelen in Rotterdam, the Nieuwe Kerk in The Hague and at the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Under Conrad’s leadership, the Sinfonia Rotterdam has become an internationally recognized ensemble, has recordered acclaimed albums and toured throughout Latin America, China and Russia. For four years he was chief conductor of the Russian State Safonov Philharmonic Orchestra.

As a guest conductor Maestro van Alphen has led orchestras such as the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, Stuttgart Philharmoniker, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Russian National Orchestra, Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie, WDR Funkhausorchester, the Bochumer Symphoniker, Brandenburger Symphoniker, Staatskappelle Halle, Thüringen Philharmonie, Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, Odense Symphony, Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, Noord Nederlands Orkest, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, Residentie Orkest, Philharmonie Zuidnederland, Brussels Philharmonic, City of London Sinfonia, Liceu Barcelona, Macedonian Philharmonic, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Enescu Phil Bucharest, Sofia Philharmonic OrchCapeTown Philharmonic, Johannesburg Philharmonic, KZN Philharmonic Durban, Budapest Symphony Orch MAV.

Other than a grand opening of the season with Sinfonia Rotterdam in De Doelen Rotterdam Conrad opens the 2020-2021 season returning to the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, the Macedonian Philharmonic and the Liceu Barcelona, as well as debuting at the Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland Pfalz and the Berliner Symphoniker.

He enjoys a particularly close association with the Russian National Orchestra and its founder Maestro Mikhail Pletnev. Furthermore as artist of the Moscow Philharmonic Society he regularly conducts the major Moscow orchestras and many more throughout Russia.
